Just thinking we could do something like Amy's league where there is a non-mandatory option of buying into a league pool with the league champion getting 50% of the pool, the runner up getting a 25% of the pool and the regular season roto champion getting the last 25% of the pool, or something like that.

So what happens if you choose not to put in, and then you win?

You get nothing and it rolls over to the next year at which point can you buy in for a chance at the bigger pool the following year, but the regular season and or 2nd place team if bought in get their share of the prize.
We used to do something very similar to this in my bowling league when I was bowling (candlepin), since a lot of the guys in the league weren't good enough or too old to get the triple strike they weren't forced to put into the pool, but every time one of those guys hit the triple they wish they had. Most of you have no idea what candlepin bowling is, but a 100 average is above average 120 is elite, so getting 3 strikes in a string is damn hard, 3 in a row only happens a handful times a year.

Well, I can tell you for certain that I won't be putting in. I specifically play these leagues because they are no money required with the exception of the Fantrax fees.

Sorry, but we can't even afford the Fantrax fees. We live very simply on Social Security. Period. No extras. Zippo discretionary spending income. We walk an economic high-wire every month -- without a net.

Which is fine, I think in Amy's league we get around 15-20 each year

I’m not managing any money You can do the same thing Amy does with the Fantrax treasurer.

Personally I would prefer just an all free league There is nothing requiring you to join the pool, it's just for some of us, not for all of us. I don't expect more than say half the league will want to opt in, which is totally fine.

obviously it's up to Scott what he wants the league to be, but it is pretty easy to manage thanks to the fantrax treasurer.
if Scott is okay with that, i think that the poll should be whether ppl want the option instead of the amount. i understand the purity of a non money league and have enjoyed playing in both.

Personally, I joined this league just for the fun of it. I have about 3 other leagues that I usually play for money in & that is enough for me.

However, I can envision a start up Fantrax league like this one that has a $5 betting fee. 30 teams X 5 = $150. $100 to 1st, $40 to 2nd, $10 to 3rd. If all teams knew this going in, the $5 bet & Fantrax dues for 30 teams is still low cost and the token payout gives a reward besides bragging rights. Just a thought for future reference.

Not a big fan of 30 teamers being money leagues to be honest. I prefer to stick to 12 team redrafts for that. There's more control.

Look I get it, it's not for everyone, if you don't want to be in the pool you don't have to and it effects nothing and you have to do nothing, as I stated prior I only expect about half the league to want to buy in, for those of us that have been in these leagues for years and have several teams, it just adds a little extra fun to the league, it works just fine in Amy's league with 1/2-2/3 of the league buying in, really if you're not planning on buying in there is no need to respond to this thread.
